Swartz, LA – Ronald Lofton Jr. Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision on Hwy 139
Swartz, LA (August 19, 2021) – On Wednesday, August 18th, at about 5:15 p.m., troopers from the Louisiana State Police responded to a fatal two-car accident on State Highway 139, in the area of US Highway 80 in Ouachita Parish.
The deceased has since been identified as 30-year-old Ronald Lofton Jr., a resident of Monroe. A departmental investigation showed that a 2017 Honda Civic, driven by Lofton, was heading southbound on LA Hwy 139. As Lofton began making a lefthand turn into a private driveway, his Civic was struck by a northbound 1996 Lexus SC 400, driven by 32-year-old Timothy Tolbird, a resident of Monroe. Lofton, who was properly restrained, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a nearby medical facility where he later passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
Tolbird, who was also properly restrained, was unharmed during the incident. Toxicology samples were obtained as per state law in fatal accidents and will be tendered for analysis. This accident is under investigation. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Ronald Lofton Jr., at this time.
Right-of-Way Accidents in Swartz
It is common for accidents caused by a driver failing to yield the right-of-way to fall under the scrutiny of crash investigators as well as insurance adjusters. This is because they involve two people who both believe they were in the right and the other driver was at fault for the crash.

Louisiana allows fault to be established in various ways, through things such as eyewitness statements, discovery via opposing council, and the testimony of expert witnesses. Although the state affords you a very ample five-year statute of limitations in which to file your claim, it is imperative that you speak with a personal injury attorney as quickly as possible. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to prove your version of events and obtain full and fair financial compensation.
