Rayville, LA – Three Dead After Collision Between Moving Truck and Tractor-Trailer on I-20
Rayville, LA (August 17, 2021) – At about 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17th, state troopers were dispatched to the scene of a deadly truck accident on Interstate 20, just outside of Rayville in Richmond Parish. This crash resulted in the deaths of all three occupants inside a Penske moving truck. Investigators were able to establish that a 2019 International Penske moving truck was moving westbound along Interstate 20 directly behind a 2008 Volvo tractor-trailer when the semi suddenly experienced tire failure from the rear-drive axle forcing it to decelerate and maneuver onto the shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, the Penske moving truck struck a rear portion of the semi’s trailer.
Although all three occupants inside the Penske truck were properly restrained, two of them died at the scene. The third occupant was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital where he later died due to the seriousness of his injuries. This accident is under investigation. Toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as is required by state law. The identification of all three occupants is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
