Norco, LA (July 10, 2021) – A house fire in St. Charles Parish caused the death of the 90-year-old homeowner. According to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, the fire broke out at about 5:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Spruce Street.
When firefighters entered the home, they located the victim in a doorway connecting a bedroom and the hallway. Although an official cause of death and formal identification are pending with the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office, the victim is thought to be the 90-year-old, disabled homeowner. Deputies ascertained that the fire started in a bedroom that was next to the room the victim was trying to escape from.
At this time, deputies have identified an electrical malfunction associated with an active space heater as the source of the fire. The fire marshal confirmed that smoke alarms were installed in the home, but it has not been confirmed that they were in working order. We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim at this time.
