DeSoto Parish, LA – Lakendrick Thomas Killed in Collision Between Two Tractor-Trailers on LA-5
DeSoto Parish, LA (September 14, 2021) – On Monday, September 13th, at about 11:00 a.m., troopers from the Louisiana State Police launched an investigation into a fatal collision between two tractor-trailers at the intersection of LA-5 and LA-3015.
The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Lakendrick Thomas, a resident of Shreveport.
The investigation determined that 42-year-old Chad Sharpley, a resident of Frierson, was traveling northbound on LA-5 in a 2019 Peterbilt tractor-trailer. At that same moment, Thomas was driving southbound on LA-5, in a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer. For unknown reasons, Sharpley lost control of his rig, causing it to collide with the other truck.
Sharpley was properly restrained and was unharmed during the crash.
Thomas, who was also properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries during the impact.
Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were turned in for analysis.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Lakendrick Thomas, at this time.
Fatal Tractor-Trailer Accidents in DeSoto Parish
While any traffic accident has the potential to be serious, accidents that involve tractor-trailers or any kind of oversized truck are much more likely to end badly. Oversized trucks, like 18-wheelers, garbage trucks, tanker trucks, and flatbed trucks generally weigh more than 80,000 pounds, approximately 40 tons, which is enough in itself to make them very dangerous.
In addition to their excessive weight, these gigantic trucks are difficult to steer and, in addition to that, some of them are hauling dangerous cargo. For these reasons, truck operators, their crew, and their parent companies have precautionary measures they are legally bound to take. If the truck operator or the trucking company was even the slightest bit negligent, it could cause a serious or even deadly accident.
