Des Allemands, LA – Coroner’s Office Identifies Cornel Jones as Victim of Fatal Crash on US-90
Des Allemands, LA (September 09, 2021) – On Wednesday, September 8th, at about 6:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police were notified of a fatal, multi-vehicle accident on US-90 in the area of Des Allemands Boulevard in Lafourche Parish.
The deceased has since been identified as 72-year-old Cornel Jones, a resident of Houma.
An investigation determined that a 2007 Nissan Armada driven by Jones was heading westbound on US-90. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the Nissan went across a raised median and crashed into an oncoming 2014 Chevrolet Silverado truck and trailer. After colliding with the Nissan, the Chevrolet then struck a 2013 Mercedes-Benz van and a commercial vehicle that was also traveling eastbound on US-90. The Chevrolet then rolled onto its side and became engulfed in flames along with the Nissan.
Jones sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Chevrolet was able to exit the vehicle on his own but sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to a hospital in Des Allemands for medical treatment.
The drivers of the Mercedes-Benz and the commercial vehicle were unharmed during the accident.
Per protocol, toxicology samples were obtained from Jones and the driver of the Chevrolet and submitted for analysis.
The drivers of the commercial vehicle and Mercedes-Benz provided voluntary breath samples which tested negative for alcohol.
This accident is under investigation.
